Practical Tips to Help You Succeed At A Job Interview

You can never put in too much preparation for a job interview. The more prepared you are, the harder it will be to make any slip ups. It is best to prepare yourself emotionally and intellectually for the job interview. competent interview is not as hard as you may think, but not as effortless as others do either.

Here are a few things that will help you be successful.

The Dos And Don’ts
There are certain things you should do and should not do at your interview if you want it to be successful.

The Do’s
* Make sure you know the location of the interview and howto get there.

* Show up on time. Better still arrive 5 to 10 minutes early.

* In advance, make sure you know the interviewer’s name and address them by their name when introductions are made.

* When introductions are being made smile warmlyand use a firm handshake.

* Be alert and interested throughout.

* Hold eye contact especially when one of you is speaking.

* Make all comments in a positive manner.

* Speak clearly, firmly and confidently.

* Promote your strengths.

The Don’ts
* Be too pushy or overly egotistical.

* Spend too long talking about salary.

* Show a lack of interest in the job or the company.

* Act defensively when questioned about anything.

* Speak badly about previous colleagues or employers.

* Respond with simply a yes or no.

Body Language

Listed below are some of the simple that you want to avoid when presenting yourself for an interview.
* Do not fidget. It shows poor self confidence.
* Avoid overly expressive hand gestures when talking. It is very distracting.
* Do not sit with folded arms because it makes you appear to be hiding behind a barrier.
* Do not shrug your shoulders when asked a question that you are unsure of. Take a second to think of a reply. Shrugging your shoulders simplygives the impression that you don’t know or care.
* Don’t respond to a question with nods and head shakes. Always use words to respond to questions.
* Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before the interview. You don’t want to yawn in front of the interviewer. It will look like you are bored.

Your First Impression
The first impression you create can be a hard thing to get beyond. During an interview you need to the best first impression that you can. There are numerous little things that you can do to help make sure you create the best impression possible.
* Be very respectful to the person that directs you to the waiting area when waiting for the interview. A little gesture like, asking how they are doing can work wonders for you when you leave later on.
* Whilst waiting for the interview, watch your posture and conduct yourself as if everyone going by is your potential interviewer. (They just might be) Smile. Do not look impatient or bored, it gives the wrong message. Some interviewers will keep you waiting just to see how you handle yourself.
* Greet you interviewer with a firm handshake and a smile.
* Stay standing until your interviewer asks you to take a seat. It is simply polite and shows proper etiquette.
* Always dress according to the type of job that you are applying for.
* While waiting to be interviewed do not eat or drink anything.
* Do not talk on your cell phone while waiting for the interview.
