The lot of the private investigator today has increased. This means a private investigator now has to expand his level of skill set thanks mainly to the introduction of the internet.
A private investigator job today almost demands a P.I. have some skill in the use of computers. If you’re reading this and thinking a career as a super sleuth may just be the right job for you take the tip - learn to become proficient at using a computer.
The competition for jobs in private investigation is becoming fierce as the result of an increase in the number of people moving into the profession. It’s not so much “new blood” but people jumping careers mid-stream looking for something a little more challenging and exciting.
But there is no doubt some experience with computers and working online will look a heck of a lot better on your regime to a prospective employer. A private investigator job today is still about physical surveillance but a lot of surveillance can now be performed online and it would be in your best interests to get some training in this area.
The Private Investigator’s Role

- The private investigator job depends on the clients requests. Most of the missions are pretty easy, involving surveillance of a cheating wife or husband. But there are also missions full of risks like protecting a celebrity. The self-employed private investigators can select their clients by their own rules, but you must understand that the amount of money you will make depends on the level of risk involved, as well as the type of client you are working for.

Obviously enrolling in a course is the best option. Check with your nearest College as a starting point. In many cases they act for third parties administering quality courses which can be completed online. These are well worth investigating.
Another option is to approach a firm and offer your services free in a work experience fashion. Simply ask whether you can “hang” around and watch and take part in any activity. This is always worth a try and along with completing the course, will augur well for your chances of landing a private investigator job.
