First Things First: Get a Bachelor’s Degree from a reputable school.
There are no shortcuts to law school – you would really have to get a basic 4-year course first before qualifying for law schools. Aside from making sure that you graduate, you will have to watch over your grades as well to show the law school you are eyeing that you are very well fit to enter their institution.
Then, take the LSAT and get yourself into Law School.
The Law School Admissions Test is somewhat similar with the SAT. It is specifically designed to assess your fitness for law school. Once you have taken this test and passed it, get yourself into law school and graduate. Most of the examinations and exercises in law schools are essay types and this would be the same test that is used on the bar examinations.
Study for the Bar Exams and pass it, with flying colors if you can.
This is the most painful stage, to be quite honest. It takes months of studying and reviewing the same things you have studied for the past years. Some even exclude themselves from the rest of the world and get themselves locked in a room. After reviewing, choose a state where you would like to practice your profession and take the bar exams on that state.
You have to get through the Character and Fitness Investigation.
After passing the bar exams, the state will then assess your final fitness before you practice law. This involves intensive investigations regarding your character that may involve digging-up your medical records, traffic tickets – pretty much all things that has something to do with how you lived your life prior to the application. This fitness investigation is oftentimes done by the National Council of Bar Examiners. This may sound intrusive but these investigations are necessary for the state to find out if a candidate is ready to practice the profession.
It is always a given for you to pour in your dedication and perseverance on any venture that you get yourself into. However, law school may need double the effort you would have to pour in on regular scenarios. It needs a whole lot of will power to be able to get through all of the challenges it will definitely bring in to discourage you from making it through – these are the same challenges that will make you become a great lawyer so you must learn how to overcome these challenges and get to the dream profession you have always wanted.
