The Work Life Balance Should Be Carefully Managed Now That You Run Your Business From Home
Oh how great to be able to Work From Home. No longer being obliged to carry out the daily commute to the office. No office politics to worry about. Time management is your domain – do you prefer to begin work early and wrap up early, or are you a late riser who would rather work late into the evening – the choice is yours when you have your own business.
As you look out of your window at the cold and wet weather conditions, watching your neighbours dash to their motors with briefcases etc, trying not to get wet, as they get themselves ready for their working day ahead. You merely need to walk to your PC, in your home, in order to be at work. It all appears to be an idyllic existence.
Some aspects to keep in mind when you Work From Home. Bear in mind that the work/life balance is just as crucial now as it was when you were employed by a company. With your computer to hand, it is very easy to keep going back online, checking on your Internet Business, to find out whether you have any new leads. This can interfere with family life if it is taking place all day and all evening.
Having an Internet Business means that you could certainly be working with other companies to be found all over the world, so it is likely that opportunities for Online Jobs could come in any time of the day or night. You can therefore justify the need to keep going back to the PC to be certain that you are not missing any work.
Where feasible, try to have a section of the home where you work – a study, a spare bedroom, some other space. Think of this section as a version of going to the office. When you are doing your job, you are not to be bothered by your family and friends. Your hours are set – this may mean that you decide to begin your day early and finish early, or you begin late and finish late, or may even mean that you take a long mid-day break but begin early in the day and work until later in the evening. When you Work From Home, you make the rules!
Another likely problem is that you feel you should work 7 days a week, because it is your own business. If you do this, you may quickly become exhausted and you will no longer take pleasure in your life working from your family home, nor will your family be benefitting from this big career transformation. If you are working 7 days a week, keep in mind that this should still not increase above the normal five day week working hour pattern, so work fewer hours each day and take pleasure from the time you have with your partner and youngsters.
Once this pattern is decided, be certain that you do not go into your work area at other periods. Reflect on your old work life, did you return home from work at the end of the day and then pop back later, just to ensure nothing new was occurring? Most probably not! Therefore, use the same policy with Online Jobs. Keep your work life and home life away from each other. Having the ability to Work From Home is a fantastic experience and keeping these points at the forefront of your mind will make sure you and your family all notice the benefits.
